Meet Pastor Steven Perrilloux and First Lady Rita Perrilloux

Steven Anthony Perrilloux, born on January 28, 1957, in New Orleans, Louisiana, spent his childhood in Reserve, Louisiana. The second child of Clarence and Celeste Perrilloux, Steven grew up with his siblings Clive, Syl, Dwight, and Jeffrey. Despite the challenges of growing up in the segregated South, Steven’s leadership skills and talents in basketball and music shone through. His peers recognized his abilities early on, electing him Senior Class President at his newly integrated high school.

Steven graduated from Southern University with a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation. After graduation, while working as a supervisor at a juvenile facility for incarcerated youth in New Orleans, Steven experienced two profound spiritual encounters. The Lord appeared to him twice, once revealing a glimpse of His Glory and then in a vision where Jesus instructed him to “Go and tell my people what you have seen.”

These encounters led Steven to his calling, and he has since dedicated his life to guiding and inspiring his congregation at Historic Riverlands Christian Center.

First Lady Rita Perrilloux

Born on October 8, 1957, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rita Ellen Blackburn spent her early years in Bellevue, Allegheny County. Her family later moved to Southern California when her father pursued a year-round career in construction. Rita is the middle child of Bernard and Frances Blackburn, growing up with her siblings Ricky, Cheryl, Kimmy, Lori, and Lisa.

A diligent student, Rita excelled in her studies and graduated from high school a year early. She chose to attend the Computer Learning Center in Los Angeles, California, over accepting a state college scholarship. After completing her education, she began her career at General Telephone & Electronics Corporation (GTE) in Marina Del Rey, California. Rita’s roles evolved from Computer Operator to Computer Programmer, and eventually to Systems Analyst before she retired in 1987.

Rita Perrilloux is the Co-Director of Little Leaders Learning Center and the Co-Founder and Tour Host of Historic Riverlands Tours. She is not only a dedicated wife to Pastor Steven Perrilloux but also serves as the First Lady of Historic Riverlands Christian Center, where she continues to support and inspire the congregation alongside her husband.

And Two Became One

Steven met Rita in Tulsa, Oklahoma in July 1982 while attending Dr. Kenneth Hagin’s 10th Annual Camp Meeting. Both were there to support their Pastor Dr. Frederick K.C Price who was a guest speaker at the meeting. They were married that same year and their first child Rose was born exactly 9 months from their wedding day.

For the next five years, the Perrillouxs lived and worked in Los Angeles while volunteering at the church ministry of Crenshaw Christian Center. In June 1987, God instructed Steven to return home to teach the people what he had learned. Both Steven and Rita believed they had heard from God to move their young family of now three, back to Pastor Steven’s hometown of Reserve Louisiana. So in September 1987 Rita, their daughters Rose and Robin, their 2-month-old son Steven II, and their dog Amigo boarded a plane to Louisiana. Steve and his brother Dwight followed driving the vehicles and all of their belongings.

Nine months later, Riverlands Christian Center Church was established in their home in Reserve, Louisiana. Their family grew with the birth of their fourth child, Christina Joy, in 1998, leading to the creation of Little Leaders Learning Center Preschool. Over their 42 years together, Steven and Rita’s family expanded to include son-in-law Daishone, daughter-in-law Ambrea, and five precious grandchildren: Nehemiah, Madison, Nyla, Gabriel, and Nalani. Rita exemplifies the role of a true Godly helpmate, coordinating and administering all aspects of the vision God placed on Steven’s heart. Together, they have nurtured a ministry that extends beyond their church, touching lives statewide and abroad.

Recently, God fulfilled a childhood dream for Pastor Steven, allowing him to play music on Broadway in New York, in Japan, and for the last serval years at Jazzfest in New Orleans. He performed with the legendary Leo Nocentelli of the Meters, Fred Wesley of the James Brown Horns, and Bernie Worrell of the Parliament-Funkadelic. Pastor Steven’s life is a living testimony to the scriptures: “To whom much is given, much is required” and “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.”

A talented percussionist and vocalist Pastor Steve has recorded several works to his credit, his latest single ‘Kingdom of Love’ and ‘Only You’ CD. Pastor Steve also is the author of his autobiography, Chased by Grace, a story of his journey relating to the call of God on his life.
